• Mine Chapter 1

“I really don’t think we had this much stuff.” Ryan looked around at the boxes and stacks of random things that filled the room, frowning. “There’s just no way all of this is ours.”
Scott was nodding like he wanted to believe Ryan, but he was the more practical of the two because it didn’t look like he was taking Ryan’s word for it. “Um, I think we just had a lot of stuff in the closets?”

Trying not to laugh, because they really did have a lot in the closet when we’d first met, I focused on getting them organized so Ryan didn’t have a heart attack. “Okay, I’ll start on the kitchen. I’ll work from the basic layout you had in the apartment, and you work on your bedroom.”

That had both of their cheeks pinking, but they straightened like having a plan made them feel better. Clearly, having a Dom in their lives was helpful outside of the bedroom too.

“Once you have that done, we’ll tackle the living room together.” Looking around the room, I didn’t think it was quite as bad as they thought. “A lot of this stuff is going on shelves or into the office. That room is nearly empty. It’s not going to take long.”

Contrary to what Ryan thought, I’d seen a lot worse when I’d helped my siblings move.

“What do you think—” Ryan and I both started the sentence at the same time, chuckling as our words trailed off.

Ryan sighed and turned so his back was leaning against the arm of the couch. “Let me guess—What do you think about Dare’s idea?”

It was my turn to sigh. Leaning back against the couch, I ignored the television that was playing sports highlights and stared up at the ceiling. If I widened my legs a little bit more and let my arms stretch out closer to Ryan on the couch, I tried not to overthink it. “Yeah.”

Ryan didn’t seem surprised when my response stopped there. He just shifted so that one leg moved closer to my thigh and nodded. “Me too.”

If Dare could have seen us, he would’ve smiled. I was glad he thought our awkwardness was cute, but sometimes, I wasn’t sure how to move past it. Still, I tried. “He seemed excited.”

There was a silent acknowledgment that we both liked pleasing him, but Dare was very firm that we wouldn’t do anything unless we were all into it. Which put us in a holding pattern because Ryan and I weren’t sure what we wanted.

    “He’s gay, right?”

Scott snorted. I didn’t need to glance over at him to picture the frustrated look on his face. “He’s in a gay bar, wearing skintight jeans, a see-through shirt, and some stud who’s probably got a hot accent just bought him a drink. What do you think?”

I knew right off the bat how to drain the smug sound from his voice. “I have three words for you. Pizza. Delivery. Guy.”

It was like a balloon deflating. “Oh, okay…so he might be gay.”

And we were back to square one. “Do you think he’s gay?”

Scott took a moment to think it through, and I glanced over to see his wide shoulders shrug. “I really think the pizza guy was an anomaly. Who flirts with gay guys to get bigger tips?”

Evidently, we either tipped too much or were suckers.
